CRAFT FUN GLUE
This harmless, non-toxic, edible glue washes out of clothes. This glue is also great for papier mache and making your own piñata.
You’ll Need: Add about half a cup of cornflour to a large bowl. Make sure that it's got gluten in it, gluten-free cornflour doesn't work. Now add a small amount of water (as little as possible) to the cornflour, and mix it until it forms a thick paste. Then you need really hot water. Gradually add a couple of cups of water to the mix, it'll go lumpy (this is the just the cornflour cooking). Stir until it forms a smooth, thick paste. If you add too much hot water at once, it won't go smooth, no matter how much you stir it.
Play Doh is a very popular modelling compound for kids and can be made easily at home. Play Doh is easy to handle, non toxic and relatively mess free.
You’ll Need: Mix all of the ingredients in a saucepan over a low/medium heat until excess moisture has all dried up, and the play doh texture has been reached. Allow to cool, and then pack up into a sealed plastic container or zipper bags for storage.
You’ll Need: Mix the flour, salt and cold water in a saucepan. Beat the mixture with a whisk or hand beater until smooth. Add the hot water and boil it until the mixture thickens. Beat until smooth. Add the food coloring to add colour. Store this in an airtight container in the fridge.
EDIBLE JEWELLERY - This makes a great snack to go! You’ll Need: Thread the Cheerios or whatever stringable food you've chosen onto the string. Tie the ends of the string together in a knot and there you have it!
You’ll Need: Paint yellow and black alternating stripes for the bee's body on the toilet paper tube. Let the paint dry, then with a black texta, draw on the eyes and a mouth at one end of the tube. Trace two circles around the cup onto the paper and cut out, these will be the bee's wings. Fold the paper circles in half and tape the wings to the top middle part of the tube. Cut out a small triangle from the black cardboard and tape to the inside other end of the tube for the bee's stinger.
You’ll Need: Write a letter of the alphabet on each page of the book. Cut out and paste pictures of objects that begin with each letter. You can also make a number book using the same concept.
You’ll Need: Cut the egg carton in half using the bottom section so that you have a long bumpy strip, this will become the caterpillars body. Paint a face on one end and decorate the body. Pipe cleaners can be added for feelers.
You’ll Need: The cone will be the angel’s body. Chose to paint it whatever colour you like. Once the paint is dry, glue the ping pong ball onto the top of the cone. This will become the angel’s head. Cut the wings from a piece of felt. Shape one end of the pipe cleaner into a small circle for the halo and wrap the remainder around the centre of the wings. Then glue the wings onto the angel. Stick the eyes on or draw them on with a marker pen. Glue on doll hair, wool, or other material for the hair. Use some thread to hang your angel.
You’ll Need: Slip the A4 sheet of paper into the plastic sleeve! That’s it! You can now draw on the plastic sleeve with the white board marker and use the tissue, to wipe off and start again!
You’ll Need: A paper plate makes a great mask, cut out 2 holes for eyes, and let your child decorate the mask, suggestions include; A lion, teddy bear or monster!
You’ll Need: A cardboard box can provide hours of fun. Decorate your box using crayons or paints, then cover some lids with foil and stick them on the front and back as headlights, stick a couple of straws on as windscreen wipers. String some straps through the top of the box over your child’s shoulders. Stick on a paper plate to use as a steering wheel and presto – a new car!
You’ll Need: Cut out two identical star shapes from your cardboard and decorate, let dry. While they’re drying paint your piece of dowel, this looks great in silver, once dry, glue your stars onto each side of the top of the dowel/chopstick!
You’ll Need: Using a piece of black cardboard, cut out the shape of an eye patch. Poke a hole in each side of the eye patch. Tie a piece of elastic to each hole.
You’ll Need: Rip the edges off a piece of A4 paper to give your map a jagged edge, then scrunch it up. Flatten the paper and soak it in some cold black tea, lay it flat in the sun to dry. When it’s dry, you can draw an outline of your backyard with steps to follow and find the hidden treasure.
You’ll Need: Cut out an oval for the beetles body. Cut out the eyes and stick them onto the beetle. Colour your beetle in your favourite colours. Cut 6 strips of paper for the legs and fold them into zig-zags. Tape or paste each strip to the bottom of the beetle for legs (3 legs on each side). Tape a piece of string or elastic to the top of your beetle to hang it up Your beetle is complete! |
